Last Night at Playas de Tijuana: Ana Andrade


As an attempt to develop a new way of representing the environment. Ana Andrade has abstracted the smallest fragment of the landscape, which were later developed by a microscope, making visible the most invisible particles of Playas de Tijuana.

Ana Andrade studied Communication in the University of Tijuana. Her practice has been in photography and video, mostly with communities. She was part of the Young Creators program (2011 - 2012) of the National Funds for Culture and Arts in Mexico (FONCA/CONACULTA) when she developed hey project "Ñongos" - an illustration of how people who got deported from the US used to live in the Tijuana River Channel. During that time she directed and produced the documentary short-films "El Gato - Julio Romero Salas", "Uk Baalam", "Scott", "Coronation" which have been exhibit in different states of Mexico, San Diego, Los Angeles, Italy and Berlin. Ana also was part of the Young Creators program (2016 - 2017) of the National Funds for Culture and Arts in Mexico (FONCA/Secretaría de Cultura) during this period she made an approachment to the Chinese community of Tijuana and developed the project "Chijuana".

During the past years she has been video or photography instructor for several workshops for kids with different communities like a mayan community in Yucatan México, with the Tijuana city dump community, at high schools, and last summer camp at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA). Ana is a 1rst year MFA candidate at University of California San Diego. Where she is exploring new ways of documenting the environment, social problems and her daily life through photomicrography.
